Gryphons used to be one of the most popular means of transport in whole World, but during Fire war in 2nd Era milions of them were forced to fight against dragons, which caused their almost extinction. Since this time clan of Blackbeard dwarfs managed to breed them again, however they are still very rare. Even more rare than dragons, who survived Fire war in greater numbers and with better reproduction abilities. First few generations of breeded gryphons were very weak and fragile animals. It took lots of care and time to make of them strong mounts again. And finally in 3rd Era, chieftain of Blackbeard dwarfs, gret Credwin the Windmaster allowed distribution of gryphons for other races (originally since Fire war were gryphons used specificaly ONLY by Blackbeards).
